What it does

Advanced NTFS file system utilities: free space, volume information, creating test files and system behaviour.

Syntax

fsutil área orden [opciones]

Options and parameters

• volume diskfree unidad

  Shows the free and total space of a drive.

• fsinfo drives

  Lists the machine's drives.

• file createnew nombre tamaño

  Creates a file of the given size in bytes, filled with zeros.

• dirty query unidad

  Checks whether the volume is marked dirty, that is, pending a check.

• behavior query opción

  Queries a file system setting.

• hardlink list fichero

  Lists a file's hard links.

Usage examples

• fsutil volume diskfree C:

  Shows the free space of drive C.

• fsutil fsinfo drives

  Lists all drives.

• fsutil file createnew prueba.bin 1048576

  Creates a 1 MiB test file.

• fsutil dirty query C:

  Tells whether C: needs an error check.

Notes and common mistakes

• Almost all commands require an administrator console.
• Wrong use of some areas can damage the file system.
